2. Our Services

We provide the following services, subject to vehicle compatibility and availability:

  • Lost car key replacement and programming
  • Spare car key cutting and programming
  • Car key programming and immobiliser synchronisation
  • Transponder key cutting and programming
  • Smart key and keyless entry programming

All services are carried out at your vehicle’s location. We do not operate a fixed workshop. Service availability depends on your vehicle’s make, model, year and key system. We confirm availability and compatibility before travelling to your location.

3. Quotes and Pricing

3.1 Fixed Price Quotes

We provide a fixed, all-inclusive price by telephone before we travel to your location. The quoted price covers all labour, parts (including key blanks), programming and the visit itself. There is no separate call-out fee.

3.2 Quote Validity

A quote provided over the telephone is valid for the specific job described at the time of the call. If the job details change upon arrival at the vehicle — for example, the vehicle has a different key system than described, or additional work is required — we will provide a revised quote before any additional work begins. You are not obligated to proceed if you do not accept a revised quote.

3.3 Price Changes

We reserve the right to revise our prices at any time. Price changes do not affect quotes already accepted and confirmed for a specific booking.

3.4 VAT

All prices quoted are inclusive of VAT where applicable. We will confirm VAT status on request.

4. Bookings and Cancellations

4.1 Making a Booking

Bookings are made by telephone on 01392 925673 or via our contact form at exeterautokeys.co.uk/contact/. A booking is confirmed when we have agreed a time, location and price with you and confirmed our attendance.

4.2 Cancellations by You

You may cancel a booking at any time before we travel to your location at no charge. If you cancel after we have already begun travelling to your location, we reserve the right to charge a reasonable contribution towards travel costs incurred. We will discuss this with you at the time.

4.3 Cancellations by Us

We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule a booking in circumstances beyond our control, including vehicle breakdown, illness, severe weather or any other event that prevents us from attending safely. In such cases we will notify you as soon as possible and arrange an alternative appointment at the earliest opportunity.

4.4 Unable to Complete the Job

In rare circumstances we may arrive at your vehicle and be unable to complete the job — for example, if the vehicle has an unexpected fault unrelated to the key system, or if the vehicle model has a system we do not currently support. In such cases no charge is made for the visit. We will advise you of the reason and, where possible, suggest an alternative course of action.

5. Payment

5.1 Payment on Completion

Payment is due on completion of the work, once you have confirmed that the key or service is working to your satisfaction. We do not require payment in advance.

5.2 Accepted Payment Methods

We accept cash and card payments (debit and credit). Please confirm your preferred payment method when booking if you have a specific requirement.

5.3 Disputed Work

If you are not satisfied with any aspect of the work carried out, please raise this with us before making payment. We will make every reasonable effort to resolve the issue at the time. If a dispute cannot be resolved at the point of completion, please contact us at info@exeterautokeys.co.uk and we will respond within 5 working days.

6. Ownership Verification

6.1 Requirement to Verify

Before carrying out any key programming, all-keys-lost work, or vehicle entry service, we are required to verify that you are the registered owner or an authorised user of the vehicle. This is a legal and professional requirement that we apply to every job without exception.

6.2 Acceptable Evidence

We may ask to see one or more of the following before beginning work:

  • Your driving licence
  • The vehicle’s V5C registration document (logbook)
  • A current motor insurance certificate in your name
  • A hire or lease agreement if the vehicle is not registered in your name

6.3 Right to Refuse

If we are unable to verify ownership or authorised use of the vehicle to our satisfaction, we reserve the right to refuse to carry out the work. No charge will be made in such circumstances. We may also contact the DVLA or police if we have reasonable grounds to suspect the vehicle is not yours.

6.4 All-Keys-Lost Security Requirement

For all-keys-lost programming — where no working key is present — we apply additional verification. This may include cross-referencing the vehicle’s registration with the DVLA vehicle information service. This step is non-negotiable and is carried out for the protection of all vehicle owners.

7. Guarantee and Warranty

7.1 Our Workmanship Guarantee

We guarantee all work carried out for a period of 3 months from the date of completion. If any fault arises during this period that is directly attributable to our work or the parts we supplied, we will return to rectify it at no additional charge.

7.2 What the Guarantee Covers

The guarantee covers:

  • Key programming — the key failing to start the vehicle or operate the central locking due to a programming fault
  • Key cutting — a blade cut incorrectly by us that does not operate the door lock or ignition
  • Parts supplied by us — key blanks, fob cases and transponder chips

7.3 What the Guarantee Does Not Cover

The guarantee does not cover:

  • Faults caused by subsequent damage to the key (physical damage, water ingress, being run over)
  • Faults arising from work carried out by a third party after our work is completed
  • Key battery failure (standard CR2032 battery — not a manufacturing defect)
  • Pre-existing vehicle faults unrelated to our work (for example, a faulty ignition barrel or damaged OBD port)
  • Keys that have been reprogrammed or altered by another party after our work

7.4 Consumer Rights

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any other applicable UK consumer protection legislation.

8. Limitation of Liability

8.1 Our Liability

We take all reasonable care when working on your vehicle. In the unlikely event that we cause damage to your vehicle during the course of our work, we will accept liability for that damage up to the value of the service provided, unless the damage results from a pre-existing condition of the vehicle that you did not disclose.

8.2 Consequential Loss

We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from our services or any delay in providing them, including but not limited to loss of earnings, missed appointments, hire car costs or any other financial loss beyond the direct cost of the service.

8.3 Vehicle Condition

We are not responsible for any pre-existing damage, faults or conditions on your vehicle that are not caused by our work. We recommend that you note any pre-existing damage before we begin work if you have any concerns.

8.4 Force Majeure

We are not liable for any failure to provide services caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including severe weather, traffic incidents, vehicle breakdown, illness, or any other circumstance that makes it impossible or unsafe to attend.

9. Website Use

9.1 Accuracy of Information

We make every reasonable effort to ensure the information on our website is accurate and up to date. However, we cannot guarantee that all information is complete, accurate or current at all times. Pricing shown on the website is indicative only — a confirmed price is always given by telephone before any work is carried out.

9.2 Links to Other Websites

Our website may contain links to third-party websites, including the AA, RAC, DVLA and IMI. These links are provided for your convenience only. We have no control over the content of those websites and accept no responsibility for them.

We do not sell, share or transfer your personal data to third parties except where required by law or where necessary to provide the service (for example, DVLA ownership verification).

For full details of how we handle your personal data, please see our Privacy Policy.

We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

11. Complaints

We take complaints seriously and aim to resolve all issues promptly. If you are unhappy with any aspect of our service, please contact us:

  • Telephone: 01392 925673
  • Email: info@exeterautokeys.co.uk

We will acknowledge your complaint within 2 working days and aim to provide a full response within 5 working days. If we are unable to resolve your complaint to your satisfaction, we will advise you of any further steps available to you.

12. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these terms or our services shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

13. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms and Conditions at any time. The current version will always be published on this page with the date of the last update shown at the top. Continued use of our services after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
